EMP201 Explained

EMP201 explained A practical Orion Moon guide for South African business owners.

An EMP201 is the monthly employer declaration used to report PAYE withheld from employees, UIF contributions, SDL where applicable, and any Employment Tax Incentive claimed. It should agree to the final payroll reports and payment made to SARS for that month.

A reliable monthly EMP201 process

Finalise payroll changes, starters, terminations, leave, bonuses and corrections before producing the tax reports.
Reconcile PAYE, UIF and SDL on the payroll report to the EMP201 declaration and accounting payroll-control accounts.
Validate any ETI calculation and retain the employee eligibility and calculation records supporting the claim.
Submit and pay by the applicable SARS deadline, retaining the declaration, payment confirmation and reconciliation.

Why monthly differences matter

Unresolved rounding, back-pay, duplicate employees or payments posted to the wrong period can reappear during the EMP501 reconciliation. Orion Moon helps trace differences between payroll, declarations, payments and the general ledger before certificate season.
